Upon arriving in Siófok, we found a campsite to stay at and went biking around the lake. Lake Balaton is the largest lake in central Europe, with an area of 228.6 mi². (It's definitely a large lake, but to put in in perspective, Lake Michigan is 22,394 mi².) It's a freshwater lake with lots of algae, so the water has a distinct blue-green color:
Siófok is also a nice town, with lots of beaches (which are private here, so tourists pay to swim in the lake). As usual, Pascale and I have been spending our days exploring the area, chatting with local people, and trying out new Hungarian dishes. We'll be on our way to Zagreb later this week. Viszlát Magyarország!
